Basic Image Scaling in GIMP

2

And once again, another tutorial on how to use GIMP.  Grasp the quick-n-easy way of downsizing your image to a smaller resolution, using the completely free, open source GNU Image Manipulation program.

Working at Sheetz now.  Just finished day 8 of work.  It’s going well – there’s a lot to learn and get the knack of doing (Sheetz Bro’s Coffee mixes, including mochas, cappuccino, smoothies, the Red Alert, and so forth.  Then there’s all the sandwich making, and of course sweeping, mopping, swiping, washing, taking out the garbage… but on the bright side, you get free self-serve coffee!  …Yipee!)

Anyway.  Figuring out life.  If you get the hang of it, lemme know and we’ll take a walk in the spring forests and talk it over.  ‘Twould be nice to go on a hike… such chill, lovely weather.

I’ve been making video tutorials on basic GIMP usage recently, and this one is about how to convert image file types quickly and easily.  Enjoy!

And oh, it’s my first day on the new job tomorrow!  Will be doing 5 hours of training at Sheetz.

New Tutorial: “Photo Cropping In GIMP”

Recently I have been recording tutorials for a new series, called “GIMP Basics,” which, surprisingly enough, will cover the fundamentals of how to edit an image in the Gnu Image Manipulation Program, or as it’s also known: GIMP.

Please enjoy this first tutorial, on Photo Cropping – and if you find it useful, feel free to pass the link around!

Lit From Within

After a late-night talk via Skype, I ended up doing a photoshoot until about 4am, involving a desk lamp, incense, a knife, a lighter, and me.  Finally, I threw a few of the images together and created this composite piece.

Man Without Coffee

Don’t let this happen to you – a lack of sleep, too much computer, and no coffee can ruin a man.

What with the filters having run out and not being in the mood for the bitter instant white tea, I’ve settled for an aloe vera drink, water, hot chocolate, black cherry tea… well, let’s just say I’m not too bad off. (more…)

8-Hour Short Story Writing Challenge

7

My sister and I decided to engage in a 8-hour long writing challenge, where we both had to write a complete short story in a tiny 480 minutes.  But lo and behold, after starting at 3pm and writing till 11pm, we finished our stories and read them to our brother and his sister-in-law.

I’m quite proud of my 14-page, 8,129-word story, which chronicles the disaster the befalls of a peaceful Kingdom that’s “somewhere in the far reaches of the earth, but closer than you could imagine” filled with “mostly-happy people,” and the great Quest of Valor to solve “the mystery of the broken sky” and in doing so win the hand of the beautiful Princess.

Bugly Jumps! – Animation Test #2 with Blender

4

So I’ve finished my second animation test with Blender!  After much trail and tribulation, it’s done, complete with a rigged character, shape keys, moving background (thanks to a great texture from CGTextures.com,) more-complex scene, eyes, UV-mapped body (texture painted with Gimp,) and, last but not least, sound effects from Freesound.org!

Here it is – enjoy and please comment!

While others are tucked safe in their beds, I am pushing a song from my head. It’s for my father – it’s not that long; a trumpet trio, a pleasant, sad song. I hope he enjoys it, and I hope you do, too. It’s about memories, or regrets, or a tribute to sadness – I’m not quite sure, but it sure is powerful. (more…)
